3D printing started to take off last year with some mindblowing videos showing what’s possible with this new technology. 3D printing essentially recreates an entire object in 3D, where it’s able to pick up on moving parts in the original object that can be replicated to work perfectly. Now 3D is coming to your iPhone, with the launch of a new app that allows you to experience 3D printing for yourself.
The app, produced by printing company Sculpteo allows you to create personalised designs on the app by picking an object from their collection – such as a vase – and personalising it a number of ways, including adding your Facebook profile photo. When you’re happy with your design, you can submit it and pay and Sculpteo will then 3D print it in ceramic, to be posted out to you.
Now some may find this part a bit underwhelming as it isn’t a very intuitive experience of 3D printing, but it has opened up the industry significantly, bringing what is currently a very new concept right into people’s hands.
